Climbing in Salzburg
Discover a climbing holiday in Austria
Without any doubt, climbing is the supreme form of alpine sports. It demands technique, power, courage, endurance – and, of course, suitable mountains. We have plenty of those mountains. In total, 266 peaks higher than 3,000 metres await you during your holidays in the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The holiday region, in which hotel in the Pinzgau is located, offers a large number of via ferratas, climbing gardens, boulder spots, indoor climbing centres and high ropes courses.
Climbing gardens are outdoor courses where you can pracitce rock climbing. According to your individual skills, you can choose between several climbing routes. Climbers who spend their holidays in the Hohe Tauern National Park are also happy about the numerous via ferratas. A via ferrata is a protected climbing route, which uses additional climbing aids like iron ladders, rungs, carved steps and a steel cable.
If you plan a climbing trip during your holiday in the Pinzgau, please think about the required equipment.
Blausee Family Via Ferrata
The Blausee Family Via Ferrata in Neukirchen is an easy via ferrata with a difficulty rating of A/B. Short, steeper sections alternate with easy traverses, making the route well-suited for children, families and via ferrata beginners.
The approach is from the upper car park P2 via a forest track and a short, steeper path to the start. Combined with the nearby Blausee, this creates a lovely circular route in natural surroundings. The route is around 1 km long, takes about 30 minutes and covers 43 metres of elevation gain. The starting point can be reached from the Hotel Klockerhaus in about 15 minutes.
Kristall Via Ferrata
The Kristall Via Ferrata at Weißsee is one of the most challenging via ferratas in Austria. It is located in the Granatspitz group in Salzburg and runs directly above the water through steep, exposed and physically demanding rock faces.
The approach is from Enzingerboden via the cable car to the Rudolfshütte. From there, the route takes around 30 minutes along the Weißsee to the start. Even the rope bridge and the traverse directly above the water require experience, sure-footedness and a head for heights.
With sections up to difficulty grade E, steep ladders and two challenging escape routes, the Kristall via ferrata is only suitable for very experienced via ferrata climbers. The route takes around 2 hours and reaches an altitude of 2,495 m. The starting point can be reached from the Hotel Klockerhaus in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
